Ober Gatlinburg is Back: Adventure Park Returns to Its Original Name

Ober Gatlinburg returns to original name
May 7, 2026

If you’ve spent any time in Gatlinburg, you probably remember the iconic mountaintop attraction known as Ober Gatlinburg. It’s long been a staple of travel itineraries thanks to its scenic views, adventure, and fun, no matter the season. Now after a brief rebrand to “Ober Mountain,” this unforgettable spot is returning to its roots by bringing back the original name. This isn’t just a switch on the sign; it’s a return to tradition and the memories folks have been making here for generations. Here’s what you should know about the Ober Gatlinburg name returning:

A Look Back at the Rebrand

When new owners took over Ober in 2022, they wanted to signal something fresh. They changed the name to Ober Mountain, hoping to highlight the park as a year-round destination rather than simply a winter ski area. As part of the rebranding process, a variety of year-round experiences were added, like summer rides, mountain biking, ziplining, and more. Even with the official name change, many longtime visitors never stopped calling it Ober Gatlinburg, a name that just sticks.

Why the Return to Ober Gatlinburg Matters

Ober Gatlinburg

Going back to Ober Gatlinburg isn’t just nostalgia; it connects the attraction back to its long-standing place in Smoky Mountain history. Families have made this place part of their vacations for decades. The name carries weight. It’s woven into the fabric of Gatlinburg and its story. Bringing it back doesn’t just honor the memories countless families have made; it helps first-time visitors understand just how much history sits on this mountaintop.

The Experiences You Love, Better Than Ever

So, what’s changed with the return of the original name? Well, not much. All the improvements and additions made in recent years remain at Ober Gatlinburg. You still get the only ski area in Tennessee, offering skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. There’s still the mountain coaster, alpine slide, Wildlife Habitat, chair lift, summer tubing, and of course The Gatlinburg Tram. The park keeps growing, adding new attractions and improving what’s already there, so there’s always something fun to do no matter when you visit.
